Holy Trinity, Sunday is Trinity Sunday, our relationship to others and to God: Father Son and Spirit.

Some randomly compiled thoughts:  The Responsorial Psalm calls out to us this Sunday: Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own. Who has the Lord chosen to be his own, you. . . us. And because we are chosen and thus blessed we should feel empowered to share our blessedness and inspire others to do so.

Sunday’s second reading reminds us that we are the adopted sons and daughters — the heirs — of God. “The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…” If we are heirs to the kingdom of God, should we not work to build up that kingdom? Should we not be good stewards of our inheritance, using our time, talent and treasure to care for the Church that God has left to us? Our Church is a treasured heirloom from God. Do we treat it that way?

We are indeed good stewards of our inheritance when do what Christ tells us in today’s Gospel, we share our faith and fulfill Our Lord’s command to “go . . . and make disciples of all the nations.” Matthew 28:1. So Jesus not only calls people to him but also forms them and sends them out in his service. Being sent on a mission is a consequence of being a disciple. Mature disciples make a conscious, firm decision, carried out in action, to be followers of Jesus Christ, sharing and giving of their lives to others.

On this Trinity Sunday, what does all of this have to do with the Holy Trinity, God the Father Son and Holy Spirit? God the Father – The single source of who we are and all that we possess, all of which He entrusts to us as caretakers, sharing and giving, – not owners who store up for themselves; God the Son – The supreme teacher and example of stewardship. Jesus shows us the true way to live as stewards by giving of himself; God the Spirit – Dwelling within us through our baptism, the Holy Spirit inspires us to use our talents well by living and acting according to God’s plan.
