This Sunday is Corpus Christi Sunday: The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
The Collect (opening Prayer)
O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament
have left us a memorial of your Passion,
grant us, we pray,
so the revere the sacred mysteries of your Body and Blood
that we may always experience in ourselves
the fruits of your redemption.
Reflection: This is the only Collect prayer on a Sunday which is directed to Jesus himself. While it begins O God, the fact that it speaks of your Passion, and your Body and Blood, it is clearly a prayer directed to Jesus himself. All others are addressed to the Father, usually with the title almighty God, or almighty ever-living God or similar. The prayer evolved through the tradition of the Roman Missals.
