Watch carefully then how you live.

“Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise…” (Ephesians 5:15)

A wise person recognizes that all we have comes from God.   A wise person thanks God every day for all His many blessings.   A wise person realizes that God has blessed us for a reason and He wants us to be partners with Him in His work here on earth.

The first two readings today invite us to forsake foolishness and seek wisdom.  To gain wisdom is to gain life and reject the evil in the world, but we must actively seek wisdom.   Jesus offers his body and blood as food and drink that will strengthen us on our journey in this world.  To enable us to participate in the heavenly life we need spiritual food.   Let us always nourish the life of God within us and share gratefully the food we receive

Jesus also announces that he is the “living bread.” And we understand that the Eucharist is the center of our life in faith: in our families, parish, local church and throughout the world.  What an awesome gift we receive in Holy Communion. We are the stewards of Christ’s life in the Eucharist.  We are called to put the Eucharist into action. As stewards of this great mystery our challenge is to go into the world and give joyful witness to what we believe!   How do we do that?  St. Paul enjoins us to be always grateful, “to give thanks to God the Father always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” to worship, to try to understand the will of the Lord and to watch carefully how we live.   Sunday after Sunday we are sent to glorify our Lord by the example of our lives. What are some of the ways we can put the Eucharist into action this week?

How will I live out the will of the Lord in my life?   This is a question that we Christian stewards prayerfully ask throughout our lives.

It is in the little things we do with great love that good stewardship is demonstrated.  Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life!
